4/26 Materialism

 The author talks about how materialistic Americans can be with reference to a man who bought a Summer home, only to spend a lot of time on it just decorating it and realizing he was sick of it.  Society tells us about materials and when we first got Happy Meal toys and were told to 'Collect them All.'  What other examples can you think of that urged you to consume and purchase everything?  How or why are Americans trained to become so enthralled in owning things?
